Human Resources Assistant

I was an apprentice at Salford City College and am now employed by the college and my day to day duties include answering the
telephone, typing letters, data input, assisting with the recruitment process (advertising, short listing, interviews, appointment),
using office equipment, assisting all other members of the team, raising purchase orders, providing a customer service.
I chose to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to learn in a more practical way, rather than in a school environment.
I also thought that earning whilst I was training was a great incentive. Also most employers prefer people with experience
as well as qualifications so you are able to get both doing an apprenticeship.
I chose to study my apprenticeship at Salford City College because I thought that the trainers and assessors were really helpful and
made the experience more enjoyable. Also the placement where I completed my apprenticeship was a great place to start as they
helped me settle into a working environment.
Now that I have spent some time in Human Resources I hope to develop further with more specific training such as a Certificate in
Personnel Practice.
I have enjoyed developing my qualifications and also meeting new people.
I would recommend doing an apprenticeship to others because I feel that it’s a more appealing way to learn and develop yourself as not
only are you gaining skills, knowledge and qualifications, you are also getting paid for it. It’s great!
